The closing date is 17 September 2026
Job summary
Are you a compassionate, caring and considerate person? Are you looking for a role where you can make a real difference every day? If you are motivated by helping others and want to build a rewarding career in the NHS, our teams at Heartlands would like to hear from you.
We have multiple Healthcare Support Worker (HSW) vacancies across the hospital, supporting a wide range of services and patient pathways. Heartlands serves a richly diverse population, and no two days are ever the same
This is a hands-on care role that can be physically and emotionally demanding. You may support people who are elderly, very unwell, distressed, confused, living with poor mental health, or at one of the most vulnerable points in their life. You will provide personal care with dignity and kindness, including supporting patients with washing, dressing, toileting, eating, drinking and moving safely.
It is also a role where compassion is seen and felt every day. You will see the difference your care makes when a patient becomes more comfortable, begins to recover, feels reassured, or when a family feels supported during a difficult time.
All successful applicants will commence employment as a Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker and complete a structured competency programme. Following successful completion of the programme, individuals will progress to Band 3, recognising the enhanced skills and competencies achieved.
Main duties of the job
As a Healthcare Support Worker, your work will be varied, challenging and rewarding. You will support patients, families and colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team, helping to create a safe, caring and positive experience for everyone who uses our services.
In this role you will:
* Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and colleagues.
* Maintain accurate written and electronic patient records.
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.
* Contribute to a safe, clean and caring environment.
* Participate in mandatory training and ongoing professional development.
To be eligible for interview, applicants must present valid photographic ID on the day and provide evidence of both Maths and English qualifications, either:
* GCSE Maths and English (Grade C/4 or above) awarded by a UK examination board; or
* Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English.
Applicants with qualifications obtained outside the UK must provide an ENIC Statement of Comparability.
Successful applicants must be able to work a rotational shift pattern, including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays. A minimum contract of 23 hours per week applies.
If you are committed to delivering outstanding patient care and want to build a rewarding career within the NHS, we would love to hear from you. Come and help us put the heart into Heartlands.
Interviews will be held in person on 29 and 30 September.
