Job summary
As an Emergency Medicine Consultant based at the Bedford Hospital site you will join our enthusiastic and dynamic team and take on a key leadership role in helping us continue to deliver excellence in clinical care, training and governance within the department.
Our Emergency Department provides a comprehensive emergency medicine service for North and part of Central Bedfordshire with a rapidly expanding population upwards of 300,000. There has been a steady increase in the annual attendance to the ED with a disproportionate increase in the number of emergency medical admissions and complexity of cases. The ED now sees over 80,000 patients per year, around 20% of whom are children. You should be MB ChB, FRCEM (or equivalent), and be on the GMC's specialist register in Emergency Medicine (or eligible for entry within 6 months). The ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, is as important as being able to cope under pressure whilst remaining calm. Sub-specialty and teaching interests are valued and encouraged within our team.

The successful candidate will be able to work collaboratively with the multi-professional team in the Emergency Department to meet departmental objectives and deliver a high standard of Emergency Care and a positive patient experience to users of our service.
Delivering excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate medical training will form a key part of the role and taking on a leadership role in delivering quality improvement and research projects is encouraged and supported.
