Contract: Full-Time

About the Role

Wigan Council is seeking an experienced and decisive Team Manager to lead our Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). Positioned directly at the 'front door' of children's services, you will play a critical role in managing risk, driving initial safeguarding decisions, and ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes for vulnerable children and families.

This position offers a structured hybrid working model designed to balance strong team leadership with flexible working:

  • Office Expectations: An alternating pattern of 3 days in the office one week, followed by 2 days the next week.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Leadership: Manage and support a dedicated team of Social Workers and Family Support Workers operating on the 'front door' of children's social care.

  • Management Oversight: Provide robust, timely management direction on incoming contacts, referrals, and initial safeguarding checks.

  • Screening Sign-Off: Review and sign off multi-agency screenings, ensuring sound decision-making and appropriate thresholds for statutory intervention or early help support.

  • Multi-Agency Collaboration: Work closely with key statutory partner agencies-including Police, Health, Education, and Early Help-to promote effective information sharing and integrated risk assessment.

  • Quality Assurance & Standards: Drive practice standards, accountability, and continuous improvement across the MASH team.

Requirements
  • Qualified Social Worker with active Social Work England registration.

  • Substantial experience as a Team Manager or experienced Assistant Team Manager within Children's Safeguarding, MASH, or Duty & Assessment environments.

  • Deep knowledge of threshold frameworks, child protection legislation, and multi-agency working practices.

  • Strong decision-making, risk management, and clinical oversight capabilities.

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to direct staff and collaborate effectively with external partners.
