Job summary

Southampton Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP) is currently looking for a highly motivated and skilled professional to join the multi-disciplinary team in delivering individual and group interventions to people aged between 14 to 65 year olds who are presenting with first episode psychosis.

The successful candidate will have quality improvement skills and the vision to continue with the development of the service. They will champion a culture based on principles of recovery, choice and personalised care, providing a role model to junior members of the team. They will be compassionate and committed to providing patient centred and evidence based care and will have a awareness of current national drivers relating to working with individuals with a psychotic illness.

Experience of working as a CPN or in this field will be an advantage.

Car driver and use of car within work hours is essential.

Main duties of the job

To maintain a high standard of professional practice in the assessment of care needs, treatment and evaluation of programmes of care.

To undertake initial team assessments of referred clients and report to the referral agents after discussion/supervision from the appropriate Team Meeting. To also undertake joint assessments with colleagues from other disciplines and agencies as and when appropriate.

To complete an accurate assessment of risk with all new clients and provide the initial management plan. All risk management plans will be reviewed and updated as appropriate.

To provide Social Circumstances Reports for Mental Health Act Tribunals and attend as required by the Team Manager.

Where appropriate, to communicate and liaise with other agencies involved in providing health care and social care.

To promote and maintain a close working relationship with medical staff, other nurses and therapists.

To assist in establishing and maintaining lines of communication with wards, and hospital departments, G.Ps, voluntary agencies and other organisations.

To continue to support carers and relatives and engage in carer support and family work interventions.

To contribute to multi-professional assessment and treatment.

To liaise with ward staff/crisis team and provide care co-ordination to clients in hospital

To participate in meetings and to offer suggestions on the development of the Mental Health and Community Psychiatric Service.
