We are seeking to recruit highly motivated and clinically focussed individuals as Consultants in Emergency Medicine. The successful candidates will join our existing team of 14 consultants and specialists. The team are committed to improving and advancing the quality of Emergency Care and deliver excellent training available locally and nationally. The successful candidate will work within a well-established and supportive multidisciplinary team. You will be based at the Weston General Hospital ED, part of Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (BFT).

The hospital serves a resident population of around 212,000 people in North Somerset with over 70% of people living in the four main towns, Weston, Clevedon, Portishead and Nailsea. A further 5.1 million day trippers and 375,000 staying visitors increase this base population each year.
This is a busy Accident & Emergency department which operates between 0800hrs - 2200hrs. The department offers full emergency care services and sees approximately 56,000 patients annually. A Same Day Emergency Care Service (SDEC), Seashore Centre (Paediatrics) and a Medical Day Unit all support Urgent and Emergency care at the Weston Division. The department also provides a specific Geriatric Emergency Medicine Service (GEMs) supported by both the Frailty SDEC and the hospital Older Persons Assessment Unit (OPAU).

This busy coastal Emergency Department manages over 160 patients daily, offering a broad and complex case mix of patients of all ages. The role involves providing senior clinical presence on the shop floor from 08:00 to 00:00, seven days a week, with additional on-call responsibilities.
The appointee will lead the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients in the adult Emergency Department and contribute to care within the ED Observation Unit. Close collaboration with the hospitals Assessment units, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), ICU, and specialty teams is essential to ensure seamless, patient-centred care. Emergency staff retain responsibility for immediate care, while ongoing management is coordinated with relevant specialties.
As a Consultant at Weston General Hospital Emergency Department you will get to strike a unique balance of hands on patient care and department management as the Emergency Physician In Charge (EPIC)
The post includes leadership responsibilities during major incidents and supports emergency admissions under on-call specialty teams.
