Why you should join our Team

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Specialist Palliative Care Team (SPCT) provides specialist palliative care across the whole of LTHT, but predominantly at the Leeds General Infirmary (LGI) & St James’s University Hospital (SJUH) sites. Together these sites provide 2000 beds and include a major cancer centre.

The SPCT aims to promote excellence in palliative and end of life care for all LTH patients. We work in an advisory capacity, assessing approximately 2000 patient referrals for SPC per annum in addition to providing general telephone advice. The post holder will utilise their excellent clinical, communication and team working skills and knowledge to provide medical input to the multiprofessional specialist palliative care team across LTHT; including medical advice and joint reviews as well as managing a personal caseload.

In addition, they will undertake defined project work contributing to and evaluating the Emergency Department specialist palliative care in-reach pilot. They will be able to work with the hospital palliative care team, St Gemma’s community nurse specialists and wider stakeholders to understand activity, outcomes, implementation and cross-organizational working, and to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of findings, service learning and recommendations for future development.
