Job summary

To provide a comprehensive support to AHP's and speciality teams, including nurse practitioners.

To produce accurate correspondence in a timely manner, typing from audio dictation.

Main duties of the job

Type dictation from shorthand and/or audio, of clinical letters, discharge summaries, domiciliary visits, medical reports, rotas, references and general correspondence - including administration.

Ensure that effective communication both within the Trust and between the hospital, GPs and patients are maintained.

Working as part of the secretarial team in ensuring that discharges and clinic letters are typed and sent out in accordance with the locally agreed standards.

Deal with enquiries by letter/email/telephone from patients, GPs, other hospitals, police, solicitors, other consultants, unit management etc.

Arrange investigations, follow up and ensure that all results are presented to medical/surgical staff and subsequently filed into patients medical records within the Trust locally agreed time scales.

General office duties, including dealing with incoming and outgoing correspondence, filing and photocopying etc.

Cooperate fully in the introduction of new technology and of new methods of working as appropriate to the work of a medical secretary.

Through self-development, continuously update knowledge of new trends and maintain and improve own knowledge.

Liaise closely with other Trusts regarding patient information and management and establish good levels of communication/liaison with other hospitals and departments.

The ability and commitment to work as a team member and be able to adhere to strict deadlines

Must undertake all mandatory training as required by the Trust.
