Job summary

We are looking for an individual to work alongside a small friendly team of staff in the Special Feed Unit at Birmingham Children's Hospital. The special feed unit prepare specialist infant feeds, oral supplement and enteral feeds for inpatients requiring specialist nutritional support and who are under the care of the Dietitians, preparing feeds for around 120 children daily.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to prepare special feeds for inpatients who require specialist nutrition using feed regimes prepared by the Dietitians . You will need to show expectational attention to detail, be able to weigh and measure feed constituents accurately, and to adhere closely to procedures. Our feeds are prepared using strict hygiene protocols to ensure they are safe to give to our most vulnerable patients.

You must have a good level of literacy, numeracy and be able to communicate effectively. You will ideally have either worked in a large scale catering business preparing food, or in a healthcare clinical setting, delivering patient care, and be physically fit and able to undertake moving and handling duties.

• Food Hygiene Certificate

Knowledge

• Knowledge of Food safety and safe food handling achieved through training
• IT literate and able to use Microsoft application including word and email
• Evidence of ability to interpret numerical information

Experience

• Experience of weighing and measuring accurately
• Evidence of use of problem solving skills
• Physically fit and able to undertake manual handling duties
• Evidence of ability to meet strict deadlines
• Significant practical experience of food handling and food safety

Desirable

• Experience of working in a food or feed preparation environment
• Experience of measuring constituents to a high degree of accuracy ( 0.5g and 0.5ml)
• Experience of preparing special feeds
• Experience in interpreting graphs
