Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a motivated and passionate Medical Secretary/PA to our General Surgery Team. You will work collaboratively with the current Secretarial Team and provide secretarial and administrative support two Consultant General Surgeons. The General Surgery Service is busy and fast paced, providing a high level of care to patients with both malignant and benign conditions.

Previous medical secretarial experience is essential, with high level typing and administrative skills. Excellent communication skills, time management and prioritisation skills, as well as attention to detail, are also essential in order to meet Trust Targets and tight deadlines. You will need to be a friendly individual who enjoys working as part of a Team, as well as individually, as the other Medical Secretaries do. Our Medical Secretaries ensure the smooth running of the Lower GI Surgery Service, whilst carrying out secretarial and administrative duties to a high standard.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide a comprehensive and efficient secretarial service to the Consultant(s) and their medical team. By personally assisting with the administrative workload, the Medical Secretary -- Supervisor will enable the Consultant(s) to optimise clinical commitment. It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and knowledge, maintaining confidentiality at all times.

The post holder will provide an empathic and sensitive point of contact for patients/relatives and carers. They will be responsible for the day to day training and supervision of other medical secretaries/clerical support workers.
