Job summary
We are looking for Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner to be dual role for recovery/anaesthetic team within the elective theatre department at North Tyneside General Hospital. This post will also support our emergency stream at the Northumbria Hospital on a weekend and out of hours rota for night shifts and on calls.
Previous recovery & anaesthetic experience would be an advantage; however, a comprehensive training package is in place for newly qualified staff, or those new to the perioperative environment.
The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic and committed to delivering safe, high-quality care.
This role includes exposure prone procedures (EPP).
Full-time posts (part-time hours may also be considered)

Main duties of the job
Delivering excellent standards of care and providing patient support throughout the post-operative phase, advocating on behalf of the dependent patient. Undertaking the role of the recovery nurse & anaesthetic assistant ensuring safe practice is maintained and patients have a positive and safe perioperative experience when delivering high quality care. Working with, and supporting other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Will undertake preparation and monitoring of the pre and post anaesthetic environment ensuring all equipment is maintained and in working condition. Supervising junior colleagues, unregistered staff and students within your role and working alongside other wards and departments and other members of the MDT.

Essential
- 1st Level live NMC Registered General Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner qualification
- Evidence of ongoing practice development
- Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching and assessing of students (essential requirement for post, expectation this will be completed within an 18 month period unless post is bank only).
Desirable
- Recognised post graduate theatre/anaesthetic qualification
- Recognised teaching qualification
- Post Registration qualification in specialty
- Diploma/degree in nursing/or health related topic
Experience and knowledge
Desirable
- Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
- Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
