Principal Policy Officer - Equalities (Equalities Lead)

- Rate: £30.26 per hour PAYE
- Start Date: ASAP
- Contract End Date: until March 2027
- Hybrid Working: 2 to 3 days per week in the office
Join our client, a prestigious London Authority, as a Principal Policy Officer - Equalities to lead high-profile work addressing structural inequalities across London. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence policies that shape a fairer London, aligning with the Mayor's priorities on equality, inclusion, and social justice.
Day-to-day of the role:- Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of equality policies, strategies, and programmes.
- Provide expert advice on the Equality Act, Public Sector Equality Duty, and wider equalities legislation.
- Support the delivery of the Mayor's Reducing Inequalities Mandate and wider social justice priorities.
- Oversee the development of Equality Impact Assessments, tools, resources, and guidance across the organisation.
- Advise senior stakeholders, including the Deputy Mayor, Mayoral advisers, and the Corporate Management Team.
- Lead significant policy programmes from concept through to delivery and evaluation.
- Build productive relationships with government, public sector organisations, community representatives, and strategic partners.
- Manage and develop a small team, providing leadership, performance management, and professional support.
- Monitor emerging legislation, policy developments, and evidence relating to equality and inclusion.
- Substantial experience leading equality-focused policy work within a public sector environment.
- Expert knowledge of equality legislation, particularly the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED).
- Strong track record of developing and delivering successful policy, strategy, and programme initiatives.
- Experience influencing senior decision-makers and providing specialist policy advice within complex organisations.
- Proven experience managing and developing teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence across a wide range of audiences.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, combined with a practical focus on delivery and outcomes.
- Experience working within local government, central government, a regulator, public body, or similar organisation.
