Support Young People Beyond the Classroom
We're looking for a Functional Skills Mentor to support children and young people across Hampshire through personalised 1:1 mentoring and practical learning support.
Working on behalf of Local Authorities, you'll help learners develop essential English and Maths skills while building confidence, independence, and engagement with education. This role is ideal for those who enjoy supporting young people in a less formal environment, focusing on motivation, personal development, and practical learning rather than traditional classroom teaching.
Many of the learners you support will benefit from a trusted adult who can encourage positive routines, strengthen core skills, and help them overcome barriers to education.

- Pay Rate: £25-£30 per hour

Requirements
- Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including mentoring, tutoring, teaching assistant, learning support, youth work, teaching, or similar roles
- Confidence supporting Functional Skills English and Maths
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patient, supportive, and adaptable approach
- Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
- Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally across Hampshire

You'll work with children and young people who may have:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- ADHD
- Anxiety and school avoidance
- EHCPs and additional educational needs
