Apply for this job

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Homerton University Hospital as a Senior Specialty Doctor in Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology. We are looking to recruit a full-time Senior Specialty Dr/Post CCT clinical fellow to complete our staff of 16 Consultants, 4 Senior Specialty Drs, 17 Registrars and 16 SHOs.

12 months initial appointment with potential to extend for a further 12 months.

The post will ideally suit a senior/post CCT candidate (ST7 level and above) with intermediate/ advanced ultrasound skills, who wishes to develop their scanning and operative gynaecology as well as leadership and management experience prior to applying for a consultant post. The candidate will work alongside our Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology consultants and nurses.

Main duties of the job

The candidate will be mentored by the local Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology consultants whilst undertaking full day scanning clinics. The postholder will also undertake general gynaecology clinics and theatre lists. They will support elective obstetric work where required for 2 sessions per month. There will also be the opportunity to help develop the Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology service as well as train junior colleagues.

The 4 Specialty Doctors work a 1 in 4 full shift rota to provide Senior Registrar cover at night, working alongside another registrar and 2 SHOs (the on-call consultant is non-resident after 2200 hrs). This is done by doing a fixed weekday night every week and a Friday-Sunday weekend set of nights every month.

The post is offered on a full-time basis on a 12 PA (Programmed Activity) Specialty Doctor/ SAS contract (2021). The contract will be reviewed after 12 months or sooner to ensure that the sessional commitments reflect the needs of the service.

Please note that the job is not compliant with the minimum 46 hour rest period before and after transition between day and night shift as per the 2021 Specialty Doctor Contract. Furthermore, prospective cover for annual leave is not provided.
