The Client

Harmonic is delighted to be partnering with a profitable, multi-million-pound D2C e-commerce business, with a loyal customer base across the UK, the US and beyond. With an established, AI-enabled finance function and a lean leadership team, the business is now repositioning for its next phase of growth, and this role sits at the centre of that.

The Role

Covering a 12-month maternity leave, the Fractional Finance Director will join the leadership team alongside the CEO and CTO, reporting to the CEO, two to three days a week. This is a strategic role rather than a hands-on one: a Senior Finance Manager leads day-to-day finance, management accounts and monthly reporting with support from external accountants, so your focus is senior challenge and judgement, testing commercial assumptions, sharpening the board narrative and keeping the leadership team focused on what drives commercial impact. You will line-manage the Senior Finance Manager and the Operations Lead, and hand back cleanly at the end of the cover period.

Key Responsibilities

• Stress-test strategic direction with the CEO and CTO, using customer, retention and unit economics data to shape priorities, resource allocation, investment decisions, forecasts and plans.
• Lead finance reporting to the board, including narrative, meetings and updates, and support the Chair on shareholder relations.
• Guide leadership team decision-making, keeping the business focused on the priorities with the biggest commercial impact.
• Line-manage the Senior FP&A Manager and the Operations Lead, setting priorities and supporting their development.
• Oversee forecasting and statutory matters, stepping in for detailed review and judgement rather than production.
• Own cash and treasury management.
• Develop the finance stack and processes, exploring how AI can deliver sharper commercial insight.
• Maintain continuity through the cover period and hand back cleanly.

Essential Experience

• Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA).
• FD or CFO experience in D2C e-commerce, subscription or consumer tech.
• Track record of board and shareholder relationship management, and the confidence to challenge the leadership team and the board.
• Experience partnering a CEO and leadership team to bring clarity through change.
• Strong commercial and data fluency (customer cohorts, retention, CAC and LTV, pricing), and comfortable working with a modern, AI-enabled reporting stack.
• Proven fractional or part-time track record, with high impact in two to three days a week.

Desirable Experience

• Subscription or credit-based pricing models.
• Experience repositioning a business for growth.
• US market experience.

Rate: £600-£700/day

Contract Length: 12 months (2-3 days a week)

Location: London (Shoreditch), hybrid, with Thursdays in the office
