Job summary
As a newly qualified dietitian, or dietitian who wishes to gain experience within the inpatient hospital setting this is the perfect role, due to an internal secondment we have a fixed term post available.
You will deliver a service to adult nutritional support patients across our wards, in a mixture of speciality areas including Orthopaedics, general medicine, surgery, respiratory, vascular and Urology. You will work closely with experienced dietitians, learning from them and gaining an insight into the treatment of complex patients on the specialist units including Gastroenterology, Colorectal surgery and Critical care.
Main duties of the job
The caseload will include a Band 5 dietitian led clinic and opportunities to deliver staff and patient education sessions. You will provide dietetic intervention to support patients in the areas of oral nutrition support, enteral tube feeding and after training, parenteral nutrition.
You will maintain clinical responsibility for your own caseload, working with supportive dietetics assistants and will contribute to the Nutrition & Dietetic Service as a whole, through participation in service developments including audit, patient experience and resource development.

Qualifications and Registration
Essential
- BSc. or MSc. in Nutrition and Dietetics Or BSc. in relevant science followed by Post Graduate Diploma or State Registration in Dietetics
- State Registered Dietitian with the HCPC
Desirable
- Evidence of further study relevant to post
- Member of BDA
- Post graduate qualification in nutrition or dietetic related area of study
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Knowledge of the current best practice in clinical dietetics
- Basic competence in calculating nutritional requirements
- Knowledge of nutritional needs and nutritional assessment
- Competent to develop nutritional care plans in hospital and/or community settings
- Basic competence in assessment of Enteral feeding, use of Enteral feeding products, equipment and regimens
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and work in multi-disciplinary teams
- Basic IT skills
- Evidence of understanding CPD
- Awareness and understanding of importance of equality, diversity and inclusion
- Ability to record keep and present information in a clear and logical manner
- Ability to work autonomously and safely within own remit
- Use and understanding of various anthropometric methods
