Job summary

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic Staff Nurse to join the progressive and dedicated Day Surgery Services team at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, based on Day of Surgery at the Poole site for 34.5 hours per week.

Day of Surgery incorporates an Admission and Day Surgery services.

The service is currently open Mon to Fri 07:00-20:00 with plans to make this a six day service and extend opening times 22:00.The successful candidate will be responsible for admitting and preparing patients for theatre ensuring that local policy is adhered to, caring for patients post-operatively and discharging patients under the nurse led discharge criteria. Once in post, they will be a key stakeholder in the development and expansion of the Day Surgery Service with the ultimate aim of enhancing the patient's experience.

The successful candidate will require significant experience within general surgical/orthopaedic nursing; have excellent communication skills and a commitment to maintaining and developing high standards. A friendly and patient-centred approach is vital to this exciting role. Previous experience in a Day Surgery setting is not essential as there is an opportunity for further training in this field, although a surgical background is preferred.

This role requires an active UK NMC Registration

There is a planned move for this service anticipated during March/April 2026, when this role and base of work will remain at Poolesite. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions. There is also a possibility that this will move to a 6 day service and the opening hours will extend to 10 pm.

  • Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register i.e. Adult
  • Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses / or post graduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post registration experience

Desirable
