Job summary

Main duties of the job

The Role:

As a Senior SACT Nurse, you are responsible for delivering chemotherapy nursing services to patients within the unit and to deputise for the line manager where required. This is your opportunity to make a meaningful impact and develop your career.

What You'll Do:

  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through all stages of treatment
  • Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence-based nursing care for patients undergoing chemotherapy, assessing health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers by identifying and initiating appropriate steps for effective care. This will include: -
    • Managing a patient caseload
    • Close liaison with medical consultants
    • Ordering diagnostic tests within agreed parameters
    • Running nurse-led clinics
  • Work autonomously whilst providing clinical leadership, ensuring all patients have an accurate plan of care, which reflects the assessment undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made ensuring clear documentation in the patients records
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills in intravenous access, the management of central venous catheters, venepuncture, and chemotherapy delivery, including the management of anaphylaxis and extravasation

What you'll bring

Were looking for experienced oncology nurses who are confident in SACT delivery

  • NMC registration
  • A minimum of 2 years nursing experience within the oncology sector administering chemotherapy/SACT
  • UKONS SACT Passport, or willingness to complete this within three months
  • Experience in venepuncture, cannulation and central venous access devices
  • Experience in oncology telephone triage and recognition/management of neutropenic sepsis
  • Experience and competence in blood transfusion and bone marrow biopsies
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • The ability to make decisions, prioritise and work accurately under pressure
