Location: Telford (2 days per week onsite initially, reducing to 2 days per month after the first 3 months)
Rate: £465 per day (Inside IR35)
Start Date& contract length: November 2026 - 12 months contract
Clearance: BPSS Required
About the Role
A leading Government client is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to join a large-scale digital transformation programme focused on modernising critical public sector services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement test automation frameworks and solutions from the ground up.
- Apply Test-Driven Development (TDD), Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD), and risk-based testing approaches.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and promote shift-left quality practices.
- Coach and mentor team members on quality engineering principles and best practices.
- Perform testing across multiple levels, including:
- Unit Testing
- System Testing
- Integration Testing
- Non-Functional Testing
- Analyse business requirements and develop effective test strategies.
- Create and maintain test data and testing artefacts.
- Participate in collaborative development through pair programming.
- Review and interpret Java unit tests (e.g. JUnit) to support defect investigation and test analysis.
- Design and develop automated end-to-end and system tests using Playwright and Java.
- Build and maintain automated test scripts across UI, API, and system-level testing.
- Translate requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria into comprehensive automated test coverage.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in Quality Engineering and software testing.
- Proven experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks.
- Strong knowledge of Git/GitLab.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to coach and influence teams on quality best practices.
- Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
- Quality-first mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
