Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant
Location: Waltham Forest, East London
Contract: Full-time, long-term until July 2027
Start Date: 2nd November 2026
Pay: £92 - £120 per day
Permanent: Potential opportunity after July 2027
About the Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant in Waltham Forest, you will support pupils who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, behaviour, confidence or engagement in school.
Working alongside teachers and the wider support team, you will help create a calm and inclusive environment where pupils feel understood and encouraged to make progress.
The role also offers excellent opportunities for career progression, making it ideal for someone who wants to develop their experience in SEMH, pastoral support or education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small-group support to pupils.
- Help children manage emotions and regulate their behaviour.
- Build positive and trusting relationships.
- Encourage confidence, resilience and independence.
- Support pupils to engage with classroom learning.
- Reinforce positive behaviour and clear boundaries.
- Work closely with teachers and support staff.
- Identify triggers and support appropriate coping strategies.
- Promote a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to remain consistent and positive in challenging situations.
- Genuine commitment to supporting children's wellbeing.
- Enhanced DBS, or willingness to apply.
