Role Summary

Lead clinical coding operations and data quality initiatives while directly translating complex medical records into standardized coding formats (ICD-10 and OPCS-4). • Coding Execution & Accuracy: Extract and translate clinical information from physical notes, electronic discharge summaries, and Trust systems into accurate ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes in compliance with national standards.
  • Data Quality & Audit Support: Assist the Audit Manager with comprehensive coding audits, Information Governance/DSP toolkit compliance, and resolving data quality issues flagged via dashboards, data warehouses, or support tickets.
  • Outpatient & Specialty Engagement: Collaborate with clinical and non-clinical teams to optimize outpatient procedure capturing, design updated outcome forms, and educate staff on correct recording pathways.
  • Process & Workflow Improvement: Identify training gaps through random validation checks, promote efficient data capture practices, and ensure timely entry onto the Trust's PAS to meet strict national financial flow deadlines.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status with substantial post-qualification experience (5+ years across diverse specialties desired).
  • Education: Degree-level qualification or equivalent (a background in Science or Medicine is highly desirable).
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, national coding rules, and confidentiality legislation.

Key Competencies

  • Strong leadership capabilities to guide junior coders, manage high-pressure deadlines, and drive team performance.
  • In-depth understanding of Data Quality frameworks, HRGs, and NHS financial flows.
  • Sharp analytical, communication, and keying skills with a solution-oriented mindset.
