We have an exciting opportunity for a number of Healthcare Support Workers to join the primary care team at HMP Altcourse.
HMP Altcourse is the busiest remand prison in England, accommodating approximately 1,160 adult males with an average stay of 10 weeks. Practice Plus Group provides primary care and substance misuse services across eight wings, clinic areas, inpatient facilities, and reception services. This role sits within our Primary Care team, where you will support with clinics, work with pharmacy and respond to emergency situations - no 2 days are ever the same! Salary £25,557 - £29,723 per annum
Hours
This position is full time working 37.5 hours per week. We run healthcare 24/7, so shifts are varied.
Shifts include: 8am - 4pm 7am - 8pm 8:30am - 9:30pm 7:45pm - 7:15am Shifts are worked on a rotational basis.Please note, this role requires flexibility and will include unsociable hours, such as evenings, weekends, and night shifts where applicable.

Main duties of the job
You will support a range of clinical and operational activities, including:
- Running and supporting healthcare clinics (bloods, observations, ECGs, NHS Health Checks)
- Working in reception (Early Days in Custody), carrying out basic health assessments and bloodborne virus screening
- Supporting health promotion and wellbeing initiatives
- Acting as pharmacy second checker and assisting with medication rounds
- Working collaboratively with nurses, GPs, and wider healthcare professionals

What Were Looking For:
- This is a clinical role, so it is essential that you have experience in at least some of the following: Bloods (phlebotomy/venepuncture), ECGs, NEWS2, Health Checks, Physical Observations (obs), Wound Care etc
- Experience of working within a clinical setting, such as a hospital (A&E would be a bonus) or a prison / secure setting
- Care Certificate and/or NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
- A resilient, proactive, and enthusiastic approach to patient care
- Ability to work effectively in a secure and fastpaced environment
