Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join our innovative Home Treatment Teams (HTTs). This exciting role provides specialist medicines management support for people experiencing acute mental health crises who are receiving treatment in the community.
Working as an embedded member of multidisciplinary teams across two HTTs, you will play an important role in improving patient outcomes through medicines reconciliation, medicines optimisation, supporting medication adherence, physical health monitoring, and promoting the safe and effective use of medicines. Working closely with pharmacists, prescribers and other healthcare professionals, you will help ensure high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical care is delivered across community mental health services.
There are 2 posts to cover our 4 Home Treatment Teams. Locations are outlined in the job description and site preferences can be discussed at interview.
Main duties of the job
The Pharmacy Technician supports the HTT Pharmacist and the wider HTT in the day-to-day operational management of medicines, including stock control, safe storage and disposal, and support for medicines reconciliation and training activity. The post holder will help ensure HTT medicines processes are compliant with Trust policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will be an organised, flexible individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The role will require this person to:
- Deliver a clinical pharmacy medicines optimisation service to allocated HTTs
- Complete medicines reconciliation for allocated HTTs
- Provide medicines related information and responding to enquiries within scope of role and competence from HTTs
- Work collaboratively towards the goals and objectives of the HTTs and Pharmacy services

Essential
- GPhC approved Pharmacy Technician course / recognised qualification
- Registration with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician
- Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) or equivalent
- Pharmacy Medicines Optimisation Training Programme or equivalent
Desirable
- Accreditation as an NVQ Assessor / Verifier
- Practice supervisor training or equivalent
- Membership of APTUK
- Membership of CMHP
Experience
Essential
- Experience working as a registered pharmacy technician in a hospital or clinical setting
- Working as Accredited Checking Technician
- Experience of stock management, medicines storage, and controlled drugs handling
- Experience of completing medicines reconciliation
- Basic IT skills including operating a computer, mouse, printers and being able to work with Microsoft Outlook/ Word/ Powerpoint and other such software
Desirable
- Experience within mental health services or a community-based clinical team
- Working as an NVQ Assessor / Verifier
- Working as a Practice supervisor
- Working with JAC hospital pharmacy computer system
