Leeds Teaching Hospitals Locum Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetist

Job summary
Applications are invited to join our friendly, supportive team of cardio-thoracic anaesthetists, based at Leeds General Infirmary. This is a 10PA post covering cardiac theatres, cardiac ICU and cardiac Cath labs, with a 1 in 11 on-call commitment. The post will begin as soon as possible for a period of six months initially. It is an additional post, due to an increase in workload across the service.
Main duties of the job
Applications are invited to join our friendly, supportive team of cardio-thoracic anaesthetists. This is a 10 PA locum appointment. This post will be available from as soon as possible for a period of six months initially. The post will deliver 10 PAs supporting the anaesthetic team at the Leeds General Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital Leeds. The post will be based at The Leeds General Infirmary. The successful applicant should hold accreditation in FRCA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent. They should be on the Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the Register if currently in a training programme within the UK or have references which have been authorised by the Deputy Medical Director and Clinical Director. It would be suitable for applicants following the portfolio/CESR pathway. We have a strong track record supporting colleagues to achieve specialist registration via this route. Applicants should have established skills in cardiothoracic anaesthesia. Excellent communication and team working skills, a strong commitment to teaching and service development are essential.

We are a diverse, supportive team of 10 cardio-thoracic anaesthetists. Our work includes an interesting mixture of acquired and adult congenital heart surgery and cardiology. There are also opportunities to work outside cardio-thoracic anaesthesia for those who wish to maintain broader experience.
This post would suit someone who has completed UK specialist training in cardiac anaesthesia, or who is planning to follow the portfolio/ CESR pathway. We have successfully supported several colleagues to complete the portfolio/ CESR pathway in recent years.
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is part of the West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT), a collaborative of the NHS hospital trusts from across West Yorkshire and Harrogate working together to provide the best possible care for our patients.
What you will bring to the role
Applicants must have established skills in cardiothoracic anaesthesia, along with excellent communication and team working skills. Commitment to teaching and service development are also essential. Experience of anaesthesia for adult congenital heart surgery is useful but not essential.
