Power BI Developer & Data Modeller

6-Month Contract | £450/day Inside IR35 | London Hybrid (2-3 Days Per Week)

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Power BI Developer & Data Modeller to join a growing data function that is investing heavily in its reporting, analytics and cloud data capabilities. This contract role will play a key part in transforming complex business data into meaningful insights through modern BI solutions and scalable data models.

Working within a collaborative data team, you'll partner with Data Engineers, Product Owners and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-grade reporting solutions while helping shape the underlying data structures that support them. You'll have exposure to modern cloud-based data platforms, including Databricks and Microsoft technologies, and will contribute across the entire analytics lifecycle from requirements gathering through to dashboard delivery.

What You'll Be DoingBusiness Intelligence & Reporting
  • Develop engaging Power BI dashboards and reporting solutions for a variety of business functions.
  • Create and manage semantic layers, datasets and reusable reporting assets.
  • Build advanced DAX measures, calculations and business logic.
  • Improve dashboard performance, scalability and end-user experience.
  • Apply data security controls and reporting governance best practices.
  • Support testing, deployment and ongoing optimisation of reporting products.
Data Modelling & Analytics
  • Design robust dimensional models to enable accurate and consistent reporting.
  • Build and maintain fact and dimension structures aligned to business needs.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to define KPIs, measures and reporting standards.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency and trust across analytical solutions.
Databricks & Data Platform
  • Write and optimise SQL queries against large-scale cloud datasets.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to create curated reporting-ready data products.
  • Support data validation, reconciliation and quality assurance activities.
  • Contribute to the development of scalable analytics solutions within a modern data platform environment.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Gather, analyse and document business reporting requirements.
  • Translate business challenges into practical dashboard and analytics solutions.
  • Deliver meaningful insight and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Support users through training, adoption and knowledge sharing.
Required Experience

We're interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong commercial experience across business intelligence, reporting and data modelling disciplines.

Technical Requirements
  • Proven expertise delivering Power BI solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Advanced DAX development experience.
  • Strong SQL querying and performance optimisation skills.
  • Experience designing and maintaining analytical data models.
  • Exposure to large, complex datasets and enterprise reporting environments.
  • Knowledge of Power BI Service, workspace management and deployment processes.
  • Understanding of data governance, security and access control principles.
  • Experience working with Databricks, Microsoft Fabric or similar modern data platforms.
Data & Modelling Knowledge
  • Dimensional modelling methodologies.
  • Star schema design principles.
  • Fact and dimension table development.
  • Slowly Changing Dimension (SCD) concepts.
  • KPI framework and metric definition experience.
Stakeholder & Delivery Skills
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to gather requirements and influence reporting outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Comfortable working across multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Databricks Lakehouse architecture.
  • Microsoft Fabric.
  • Python for data analysis and automation.
  • CI/CD, DevOps or release management practices.
  • Experience within construction, infrastructure, engineering, property or project-based organisations.
  • Microsoft Power BI certifications.

Role: Power BI Developer & Data Modeller
Contract Length: Initial 6 Months
Rate: £450 per day
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Location: London
Working Pattern: Hybrid, 2-3 days per week onsite
Start Date: ASAP
