Job summary
The Jobholder will carry 24 hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department. They will provide professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for developing and maintaining a ward or departments philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. Through managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will ensure cost effective use of resources. The role will be 70% non-clinical management and 30% clinical management. The job holder will manage the administrative and financial aspects of the ward and will ensure cost effective use of resources and deployment of staff. Current services comprise of the day surgery unit with overnight cover on Mondays and the management/service delivery of the Day Treatment Unit. The role requires direct management of approximately 25.65 whole time equivalent staff both registered and unregistered. The jobholder is responsible for the department clinical budget.

You will be supported & facilitated by Matron, Senior Management, Education and Business Team to lead and contribute to the quality, performance, governance and financial aspects of the role.

This role also involves teaching, assessing & mentoring various junior members within the unit, so a recognised teaching and assessing qualification is essential. A certification in leadership is desirable. They should also have insight into working on a peripheral site and managing the challenges that presents.

Registered Nurse (RN Adult for adult clinical areas or RN Child for children’s areas) (Level 1 or 2)
Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
Degree in Nursing or related subject or equivalent professional experience
Evidence of effective professional and leadership development
Evidence of continued professional development
