Job summary

Are you an experienced and qualified electrical craftsperson ready to make a difference in a healthcare setting? Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a proactive and highly skilled individual to join our dynamic Estates & Facilities team.

This is an excellent opportunity to apply your technical expertise within one of the region's largest healthcare organisations. You'll be part of a supportive and experienced team, working on a diverse range of electrical systems in a setting where your work has a direct impact on patients, visitors and colleagues every day.

This role offers:

  • Recruitment & Retention Payment of £3,500 per annum in addition to annual salary
  • On-call allowance of £2 per hour
  • Enhanced rates of pay when attending a call-out:
    • Before 6:00am and after 8:00pm on weekdays
    • All hours during weekends

Core hours are 8am-4pm Monday-Friday and there is an on call rota for 1 in 6 weeks (4pm-8am Monday-Friday, and 48 hours Saturday and Sunday).

Main duties of the job

As a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Craftsperson with an electrical bias, you'll play a vital role in maintaining a safe and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors. You'll be responsible for planned preventative maintenance, defect response, and emergency repairs across a wide range of hospital systems and infrastructure.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Perform electrical maintenance and repair in compliance with BS7671 and NHS HTM standards.
  • Support multi-trade maintenance tasks including minor improvements and capital works.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota to respond to urgent maintenance issues.
  • Carry out inspections and commissioning tests, providing a reliable audit trail.
  • Operate the Building Management System (BMS) to monitor and control energy usage and equipment.
  • Liaise with contractors, manage safety risks, and ensure statutory compliance across all tasks.
