We are currently working with a supportive and welcoming secondary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint a reliable and enthusiastic Cover Supervisor for an immediate start.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to develop their classroom presence, behaviour management skills, and understanding of the secondary school environment.

The position could be particularly well suited to graduates, Teaching Assistants, sports coaches, youth workers, mentors, tutors, or aspiring teachers looking to gain further experience in education.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will take responsibility for supervising classes when the usual teacher is unavailable. Work will be pre-planned and provided, allowing you to focus on maintaining a positive learning environment and ensuring students remain engaged and on task.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise KS3 and KS4 classes across a variety of subjects.
  • Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure students complete the required work.
  • Establish a calm, purposeful, and positive classroom environment.
  • Set clear expectations and manage behaviour consistently.
  • Provide appropriate support and guidance to students during lessons.
  • Monitor student engagement and address any issues that arise.
  • Communicate relevant feedback and concerns to teaching staff.
  • Support with break, lunch, corridor, and other general school duties when required.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Act as a responsible and positive role model within the school.
The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in working with children or young people through education, coaching, mentoring, youth work, care, or a similar setting.
  • Confident taking responsibility for a classroom.
  • Calm, patient, and consistent when managing behaviour.
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable, organised, and able to adapt to different situations.
  • Professional and confident when working with secondary-aged students.
  • Passionate about helping young people succeed.
  • Previous experience working in a school is desirable but not essential.
What's on Offer?
  • Immediate start available.
  • Full-time, long-term opportunity within a Northampton secondary school.
  • Competitive daily rates of pay.
  • Weekly pay.
  • Potential for temp-to-permanent progression.
  • Free CPD and professional development opportunities, including safeguarding, SEND, and behaviour management.
  • Dedicated support from an experienced education recruitment consultant.
  • Valuable classroom experience across KS3 and KS4.
  • Opportunities to develop your education career.
  • Potential pathway into teacher training for aspiring teachers.
