Job summary

Applications are invited for a replacement, full-time Specialty Doctor in Dermatology appointment in response to service requirements.The post is for 10 PAS at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. However, you may be asked to work at other sites as we are in partnership. This post is based at the NNUHFT and Cromer Hospital.

The NNUH Dermatology team includes 17 substantive consultants, 3 nurse consultants and 3 locum consultants.

A candidate who is unable for personal reasons to undertake the duties of a whole-time post will receive equal consideration. If such a candidate is appointed the job content will be modified as appropriate in consultation with consultant colleagues and local management.

Main duties of the job

The post involves 10 sessions of which 6-7 will be outpatient clinics. These clinics vary from general dermatology, skin cancer clinics, minor surgery and specialist clinics. Dermatology does not have dedicated inpatient beds but dermatology patients may be on other wards. The duties of the SAS post also include working with the Core trainees in looking after inpatients. The SAS are on regular on call/ acute dermatology rota along with the ST3+ resident doctors (21 annualized sessions) holding the emergency phone between 8am-6pm (weekdays), dealing with calls from GPs, ward patients and A&E.

The Dermatology department is also involved in the teaching of undergraduate medical students for the University of East Anglia. Duties of the SAS include teaching of medical students at the bedside and as part of seminars.

The appointee will be encouraged to undertake an audit and annual appraisal.

This post is designed for a doctor looking to gain further experience and a career in dermatology. Applicants will be encouraged to register for e-portfolio and to undertake work based assessment in line with those performed by trainees and we also support CCT via the portfolio pathway route. Candidates will be expected to supervise clinics independently with another resident if a consultant is away. This is a non-training post, and therefore the successful applicant must be fully registered with the GMC.
