Job summary

We seek an experienced and ambitious Head of Radiopharmacy to lead our large, regional, MHRA Specials Licenced Radiopharmacy Service. This is an exciting opportunity to shape service delivery and support the growth of Nuclear Medicine services within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and the wider region. This role provides strategic and operational leadership, ensuring the safe, efficient and compliant production and supply of radiopharmaceuticals, leading a highly skilled multidisciplinary team.

The post-holder also acts as regional coordinator for Radiopharmacies across the South Yorkshire and Humber area and will be key to developing a regional strategy for the future provision of regional radiopharmacy services to improve service delivery, capacity and resilience. They are expected to provide a key link for the region into the UK Radiopharmacy Group.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

• Lead the Radiopharmacy Service and its workforce.
• Ensure compliance with MHRA and other regulatory requirements.
• Drive service development, innovation and quality improvement.
• Work closely with both the Nuclear Medicine Section Head and Technical Manager to manage resources, budgets and workforce planning effectively across the whole service.
• Work closely with Radiopharmacy teams in other Trusts across the region in provision of robust regional radiopharmaceutical supply.
• Support research, education and the introduction of new radiopharmaceuticals.
• Build strong relationships with clinical, scientific and managerial colleagues.

Essential

• A degree in a physical, biological or other suitable science (e.g. physics, chemistry, pharmacy) or equivalent at 2ii or above
• Statutory professional registration (HCPC or GPhC)
• Post-graduate qualification in Quality Assurance, Radiopharmacy or other suitable subject to MSc/MPharm level or equivalent
• PhD or equivalent level of knowledge/expertise in Radiopharmacy

Experience

Essential

• Significant experience within Radiopharmacy or similar service, including relevant experience at senior level
• Significant post-qualification experience working in a NHS hospital pharmacy (MHRA Specials licensed or Section 10), or in the pharmaceutical industry. This to include involvement in operational management and development of a pharmacy quality management system
• Thorough knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)

Desirable

• Experience of radiopharmaceutical production for intravenous administration
