About this job

Learning Support Assistant - Year 2 ASD

Location: Lambeth, South London
Start Date: 21st September 2026
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Pay: £100-£120 per day

A welcoming Lambeth primary school is looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide 1:1 support to a Year 2 pupil with Autism (ASD).

The pupil is currently showing challenging behaviour and a strong reluctance to attend and engage with school. The successful Learning Support Assistant will therefore play a key role in building trust, reducing anxiety and helping the pupil gradually develop a more positive relationship with school.

The Role

Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider pastoral team, you will provide consistent and individualised support throughout the school day.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 2 pupil with ASD
  • Building a trusting and positive relationship with the pupil
  • Supporting emotional regulation and managing challenging behaviour
  • Helping the pupil settle into classroom routines and school life
  • Encouraging engagement with learning and activities
  • Supporting transitions and reducing anxiety around the school environment
  • Developing the pupil's communication, social skills and independence
  • Adapting activities and expectations according to the pupil's needs
  • Working closely with the SENCO, class teacher and parents/carers
About You

The school is looking for a Learning Support Assistant who is patient, resilient and able to remain calm and consistent when faced with challenging behaviour.

Previous experience supporting children with ASD, challenging behaviour, SEMH or school avoidance would be highly desirable. Most importantly, you will understand that building a strong relationship and creating a sense of safety and trust will be central to helping this pupil make progress.

This role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant or Behaviour Support Assistant who is looking for a rewarding long-term opportunity.
