SEMH Teaching Assistant

Tradewind Recruitment is working closely with specialist SEMH schools and alternative provisions across Dover and the surrounding areas. We are looking for caring, resilient and committed Teaching Assistants to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs on both a full-time and part-time basis.

The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you'll work alongside experienced teachers and support staff to help pupils who may experience emotional, behavioural or mental health challenges.
You will support students with a range of additional needs, including:
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- Attachment and Trauma-related needs
- Anxiety and Emotional Regulation difficulties
- Challenging Behaviour
Every day is different, and your role will be to build positive relationships, encourage engagement with learning and help create a safe, structured and supportive environment where pupils can succeed.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Promoting positive behaviour using consistent strategies.
- Helping students regulate their emotions and build resilience.
- Supporting learning activities both inside and outside the classroom.
- Encouraging confidence, independence and social development.
- Building trusting relationships with pupils, teachers and families.
- Working as part of a dedicated multidisciplinary team to support individual learning plans.

You'll also need:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Patience, empathy and resilience.
- A calm and positive approach to behaviour management.
- A genuine passion for helping young people achieve their potential.
Previous SEMH or SEN experience is desirable but not essential, as full support and ongoing training will be provided.

Requirements
- Full right to work in the UK.
- An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
- A new DBS costs £62, which we'll reimburse after you've completed 20 days of work with us.
