About this job
Prevention Service Worker - SELPS Pilot
South East London Prevention Service (SELPS)
4-month fixed-term pilot assignment
£19.00 per hour
Greenwich, Peckham & Deptford
Start ASAP
The South East London Prevention Service (SELPS) is a specialised Thames Reach initiative operating across South East London.
The service works to stop homelessness before it starts by identifying people who are at imminent risk of losing their homes, providing housing and tenancy advice, and offering floating support to help vulnerable individuals maintain secure accommodation.
As part of a new 4-month pilot scheme, SELPS is developing an approach to support people who have a housing need but do not have pronounced support needs. The aim is to prevent people from unnecessarily entering rough sleeping services by helping them access appropriate housing solutions at an earlier stage.
We are looking for an experienced, motivated and compassionate Prevention Service Worker to join the pilot.
You will work directly with people who may be at risk of homelessness or rough sleeping, helping them identify realistic housing options and supporting them to secure and maintain appropriate accommodation.
This is a practical, solutions-focused role for someone with a strong understanding of housing and homelessness.
The role will involve working across in Greenwich, with the opportunity to work from our offices in:
Peckham
Deptford
You will need to be flexible and comfortable working across different locations and services.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:
Tenancy Sustainment
Homelessness Outreach
Supported Housing
Experience in homelessness prevention, housing advice, working with people at risk of rough sleeping, or liaising with landlords and housing providers would also be valuable.
- Assess people's housing circumstances and identify appropriate solutions.
- Provide practical housing, tenancy and homelessness prevention advice.
- Work with people to prevent homelessness and sustain accommodation.
- Identify individuals who can be appropriately diverted from rough sleeping services.
- Explore available housing options and support people to access them.
- Liaise with landlords, councils, housing providers and partner organisations.
- Make appropriate referrals and provide effective handovers where additional support is required.
- Recognise when someone has more significant support needs and ensure they are referred to the appropriate service.
- Maintain accurate case records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the pilot.
- Work creatively and proactively to find solutions to housing problems.
We're looking for someone who is:
Experienced in tenancy sustainment, outreach or supported housing
Knowledgeable about housing and homelessness pathways
Confident assessing housing situations and identifying practical solutions
Experienced in working with landlords, housing providers or statutory services
A strong communicator with excellent advocacy and problem-solving skills
Able to work independently and manage a varied workload
Non-judgemental, resilient and person-centred
Passionate about preventing homelessness and helping people maintain secure accommodation
