We are seeking an experienced Assistant Director - Housing Asset Investment & Building Safety to provide strategic leadership across housing asset management, building safety, compliance assurance and long-term investment planning.

This is a high-profile interim opportunity for an accomplished housing leader to shape and drive a regulator-ready asset management and building safety function across a large and complex housing portfolio.

The Role

Reporting to the Director of Housing Services, you will lead the strategic approach to housing asset investment, building safety, compliance assurance and asset intelligence. You will be responsible for overseeing significant investment programmes, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing assurance to senior leadership, Members and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead housing asset investment and building safety strategy across a substantial housing portfolio.
  • Provide senior oversight of compliance with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety legislation and wider regulatory requirements.
  • Drive long-term asset management planning, including 5-year and 30-year investment strategies.
  • Lead building safety assurance, risk management and regulatory readiness.
  • Develop robust asset intelligence, governance and performance frameworks.
  • Provide strategic leadership across asset investment, stock condition and building safety functions.
  • Build effective relationships with residents, regulators and senior stakeholders to deliver safe, compliant and sustainable homes.
About You

You will bring:

  • Significant leadership experience at Assistant Director, Director or equivalent level within local government, social housing or a large housing provider.
  • Extensive knowledge of housing asset management, building safety and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety legislation, Consumer Standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Proven experience leading large-scale investment programmes and long-term HRA planning.
  • Experience working with regulators, elected members, boards and senior stakeholders.
  • A professional qualification such as MRICS, CIOB, CABE or equivalent.
