Strategic Commissioning Advisor

Contract Length: 2 years

Day Rate: £450–£500 per day

Location: Oxfordshire

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Commissioning Advisor to provide senior-level technical leadership and authoritative expertise across a complex professional area. This is a strategic role requiring the ability to advise senior leaders, influence organisational direction and provide trusted technical expertise across complex service areas. You will support technical specialists, drive innovation and best practice, and contribute to long-term planning and strategic decision-making.

Regional-level experience is essential. Local authority experience alone will not be sufficient. Candidates must also have demonstrable experience working with councils.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level technical leadership, advice and expertise across complex service areas.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Evaluate complex information and provide evidence-based recommendations, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Influence strategic decisions and contribute to long-term service planning.
  • Research emerging best practice, trends and innovations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work collaboratively across teams, partners and communities to improve service delivery and organisational capability.
  • Represent the organisation as a technical expert and handle complex or sensitive queries.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-specialist audiences.
  • Strong understanding of the policy, economic and environmental context affecting the relevant professional area.
  • Experience working collaboratively across organisational boundaries and with external partners.

What We're Looking For

  • We are looking for a senior professional who can operate confidently at strategic level, challenge constructively and provide credible technical leadership. You will bring substantial regional experience, a strong understanding of working with councils, and the ability to turn complex technical insight into practical strategic recommendations.

If you have the regional-level expertise, strategic influence and council experience required for this role, we would like to hear from you.
