Infrastructure Engineer – 12-month contract – Fareham
My longstanding customer is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join an established IT team, supporting, and developing a secure, resilient, and highly available infrastructure environment.
This is a hands-on infrastructure role covering Windows Server, VMware, cloud, and networking, with a mixture of BAU support, technical troubleshooting and involvement in infrastructure projects, migrations, and platform upgrades.
Essential Technical Experience from the Infrastructure Engineer:
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Windows Server.
- Good knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP.
- Practical experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.
- Experience supporting Microsoft Azure or AWS infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of networking, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls.
- Experience working within hybrid on-premises/cloud environments.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring, backup, and recovery technologies.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across complex infrastructure environments.
- Working knowledge of PowerShell or scripting/automation.
Key Responsibilities of the Infrastructure Engineer:
- Administer, support, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and file services.
- Manage and support VMware vSphere/ESXi/vCenter environments, including virtual machines, hosts, clusters, storage, and patching.
- Support Microsoft Azure or AWS infrastructure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, and backup.
- Work across hybrid infrastructure environments, spanning on-premises, virtualised and cloud platforms.
- Support core networking infrastructure including LAN/WAN, VLANs, routing, switching, VPNs, firewalls, wireless, TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues across server, virtualisation, cloud, and network environments.
- Contribute to infrastructure projects, migrations, upgrades, and transformation initiatives.
- Support backup, disaster recovery, and infrastructure resilience.
- Provide 3rd line technical support and carry out root cause analysis where required.
- Maintain technical documentation and contribute to infrastructure improvements and automation.
The Infrastructure Engineer is required to be onsite, 5 days a week in Fareham.
