Job summary
Central Surrey Health (CSH) is an employee-owned, not-for-profit social enterprise providing adult community health services across North-West Surrey.
We are seeking an experienced Non-Executive Director to join our Board, bringing strong expertise in finance, audit, risk and assurance. We are particularly interested in candidates who can combine this with experience of leading or running business, commercial enterprise or significant operational function, bringing a broader commercial perspective to Board discussions.
This is an opportunity to bring your experience, independent perspective and professional judgement to an organisation delivering high-quality community healthcare. You will contribute to the strategic direction, governance and long-term sustainability of CSH at an important time for community services.

Main duties of the job
As a Non-Executive Director, you will contribute to the collective leadership of CSH, providing independent oversight, constructive challenge and strategic insight to support effective governance and decision-making.
You will bring strong financial and assurance expertise, with the ability to interpret complex information, identify key issues and risks, and provide thoughtful challenge to the Executive Team and Board.
While your particular contribution will be in finance, audit, risk and assurance, you will take a broad organisational perspective and contribute across the full range of Board matters, including sustainability, growth opportunities and commercial decision-making where appropriate.
You will ideally bring
- Significant senior or Board-level experience in finance, audit, risk or assurance
- A strong understanding of financial management, reporting, controls and organisational risk
- Experience of operating in a complex, regulated or highly accountable environment
- Experience of audit and assurance processes
- A recognised professional accountancy qualification or equivalent experience
- Experience of leading, managing or running a business, commercial enterprise or substantial operational function, bringing commercial acumen and strategic insight.
Experience within healthcare, public services, social enterprise or another purpose-led organisation would be advantageous, as would experience running or leading a commercial organisation.

- previous experience as a Non-Executive Director, with a strong understanding of Board-level governance, assurance and decision-making
- senior-level experience in finance, audit, risk or assurance within a complex or regulated environment
- strong knowledge of financial reporting, financial controls, audit and risk management, with the ability to interpret and challenge financial information and key judgements
- experience of working effectively with internal and external auditors and assurance frameworks
- experience of chairing, or significant experience contributing to, an Audit and Risk Committee or equivalent would be helpful, providing confidence to lead robust assurance discussions
- an understanding of the financial and regulatory context of healthcare, public services or purpose-led organisations
- experience of working in, or alongside, clinical or healthcare settings would be advantageous but is not required
- Experience of running a business or commercial enterprise would be advantageous

- a recognised professional accountancy qualification, for example ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
