Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Clinical Psychologist

The closing date is 22 November 2026

Apply for this job

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join our Birkenhead CMHT working primarily with older people. This vacancy is a 12 month fixed-term post to cover maternity leave, offered at 0.77 WTE. The CMHT offers multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention for people with complex mental health needs.

Alongside direct therapeutic work with individuals and their families, you would also support the delivery of psychologically informed care and care planning through case discussions, MDT meetings, supervision, training and consultation. The post also offers opportunity to complete neuropsychological assessment and to work more systemically, for example with those living with dementia in care settings. Being a community role, therapeutic work takes place in both clinic and community settings, so travel around Wirral is expected. We have a well-established programme of psychologically led workshops for the wider team that the post holder could contribute to as an opportunity to build leadership skills. The Trust has a growing team of older adult psychologists who offer peer support and neuropsychological supervision. The postholder would also be joining a well-established Wirral CMHT psychology team with wide-ranging skills and the support of assistant psychologists. This may afford opportunity to build skills in the supervision of others.

Main duties of the job

This post will enable the development of a wide range of clinical and professional skills. The team has links to the North West DClinPsych courses and offers clinical placements. This post is being offered as a band 7 which would be commenced as a 7-8a development post, therefore the candidate would be supported to develop their skills and competencies according to a structured development process.

We would welcome applications from newly qualified clinical psychologists. However, we would also be keen to hear from clinical psychologists at other stages of their profession, if interested. We are open to discussions around working hours and flexible working, if it meets the requirements of the service. This role may also be suitable as a secondment opportunity.
