An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Dietitian to join the Diabetes Team at Barnsley Hospital. We welcome applications from Band 6 Dietitians and experienced Band 5 Dietitians looking to develop into a specialist role.
This Band 6 position offers the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in adult diabetes, supported by our experienced Band 7 Diabetes Dietitian through structured training and shadowing opportunities.
The role includes managing dietetic-led diabetes clinics, contributing to multidisciplinary clinics including insulin pump and antenatal diabetes services, and providing specialist input to adult inpatients with diabetes. You will work closely with Diabetes Specialist Nurses, Diabetes Specialist Midwives and Consultants as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
You will also contribute to diabetes education programmes and may have opportunities to support DAFNE delivery and gain experience within paediatric diabetes services.
As part of our friendly and supportive Dietetic Department, you will receive excellent clinical supervision, administrative support and access to continuing professional development opportunities. We are committed to supporting staff development and helping individuals achieve their career goals.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop specialist diabetes expertise within a forward-thinking team.
Main duties of the job
To provide specialist dietetic advice for patients with diabetes who may require complex dietetic intervention and to monitor and adapt their treatment accordingly in an inpatient/out patient setting. Within an outpatient setting, this will include seeing patients in a weekly dietetic led diabetes clinic, multi-professional diabetes clinics and diabetes antenatal clinics. To also provide diabetes inpatient cover and assist acute team members with treating complex diabetes patients on the ward.
To produce nutrition education resources, diet sheets and patient literature, ensuring that these convey complex nutritional information in an understandable form for clients who may have barriers to understanding.
Support and supervise the development of dietetic students in developing dietetic skills.
To respond to nutrition queries from other health professionals, the general public and media.
To be able to plan, prioritise and manage own workload where there could be interruptions which have to be dealt with and where the nature of the work is unpredictable.
To have good communication skills in order to use persuasion, negotiation, tact and empathy with health professionals, patients and carers.
To be able to work as an effective member of teams to ensure optimum care for patients.
