About this job

SEN Teacher - Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH)

Location: East Sussex | Academics Education Recruitment

Are you a resilient, empathetic teacher who believes every young person deserves the opportunity to succeed?

Academics are seeking a committed SEN Teacher to work within a specialist education setting in East Sussex, supporting pupils with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

The pupils may have experienced barriers to mainstream education and may present with emotional dysregulation, anxiety, behavioural challenges, attachment difficulties or difficulties with trust and relationships.

We're looking for a teacher who can look beyond behaviour, build positive relationships and create a structured learning environment where pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that reflect individual learning needs and abilities.

  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, confidence, resilience and positive behaviour.

  • Implementing trauma-informed and restorative approaches to classroom management.

  • Establishing clear routines, consistent boundaries and positive relationships.

  • Working collaboratively with pastoral teams, SEN staff and external professionals.

  • Supporting pupils to re-engage with education, develop independence and achieve meaningful outcomes.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Have experience teaching pupils with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges or additional learning needs.

  • Remain calm, consistent and solution-focused in challenging situations.

  • Understand the importance of positive relationships, safeguarding and emotional wellbeing.

  • Be committed to helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.

Experience in alternative provision, specialist SEN schools or trauma-informed education would be advantageous.

If you're passionate about helping pupils rebuild confidence and rediscover their potential, contact Academics today.

Salary will be determined by the successful candidate's qualifications and relevant experience, and will be in accordance with the client's pay policy.
