Job summary

Hywel Dda University Health Board is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Principal Radiographer for CT to lead, develop and operationally manage CT services across the Health Board.

This is an opportunity to take a senior leadership role within Radiology, supporting safe, high-quality and patient-centred CT services for communities across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

You will be the lead professional for CT, providing expert clinical and technical advice while ensuring the service is safe, efficient, cost-effective and responsive to Health Board priorities, national standards and local population needs.

The role combines strategic service development with hands-on operational leadership, including performance delivery, workforce planning, clinical governance, access and activity targets, equipment quality assurance, finance and the day-to-day management of CT services across sites.

Working closely with the Deputy Head of Radiology, Head of Radiology, Clinical Director, Radiology Quality and Governance colleagues, radiologists and site teams, you will help shape a modern, resilient and innovative CT service where staff are supported to deliver excellent care.

Main duties of the job

The Principal Radiographer for CT will provide professional, clinical and operational leadership for CT services across the Health Board, acting as the key link and point of contact for CT matters and supporting consistent standards across sites.

You will lead service management and development, contribute to annual operational plans and business cases, support equipment procurement and replacement programmes. You will ensure maintenance, quality assurance and radiation protection arrangements are robust and responsive to service needs.

The post holder will be responsible for delivering safe and effective CT services through strong governance, audit, risk management, incident learning, protocol development, workforce leadership, budget management and performance oversight. This role will include line management of designated staff, supporting training and competence, managing resources effectively, and ensuring CT services meet access, activity, quality and financial targets.

You will also maintain a high level of CT clinical expertise, provide specialist advice to colleagues and clinical teams, support safe medicines practice and Patient Group Directions where relevant. You will champion continuous improvement, staff engagement and compassionate leadership across the service.
