London Ambulance Service NHS Trust Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
The closing date is 26 September 2026
Job summary
Based in one of the worlds busiest and most diverse cities, the London Ambulance Service offers a unique and dynamic career supporting people across all walks of London life.
As a qualified AAP (Band 4 Assistant Ambulance Practitioner) or EMT (Band 5 Emergency Medical Technician), you will provide high quality emergency and urgent care, assessing and treating patients at the scene, referring them to other healthcare providers, or transporting them safely to appropriate treatment centres when necessary.
Success in this role requires strong communication skills, the ability to perform effectively under pressure, and flexibility when responding to a wide range of patient needs. You will be expected to uphold the Trusts core values and behaviors while delivering excellent patient care.
Successful candidates will be placed onto a dedicated Overlay Roster for a minimum period of 12 months.
The Overlay Roster has been designed to support operational resilience across London and provides additional workforce capacity where demand is highest. As a result, the roster will contain a higher proportion of unsocial hours than standard operational rosters.
Applications to move from the Overlay Roster through flexible working or reasonable adjustment processes will be considered centrally and balanced against operational requirements at the time.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide emergency and urgent care to a wide range of patients, assessing and treating patients at the point of contact where appropriate, referring to other healthcare providers where necessary, and conveying patients safely to treatment centres, hospitals or emergency departments according to their clinical needs.
Working as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Assistant Ambulance Practitioner (AAP), the post holder will work independently and alongside an HCPC-registered Paramedic or other suitably qualified member of staff to provide high-quality, safe and effective clinical care, including patient transportation. All care will be delivered in accordance with UK Ambulance Services Clinical Practice Guidelines and service policies and procedures.
