The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading cancer centres in the world and has an international reputation for the care and treatment it provides.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Band 7, Ward Sister/Charge Nurse for Markus ward (private ward). The ward consists in 8 single rooms, providing specialist facilities for the care of oncologic patients. The ward delivers care to patients undergoing chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy, while supporting symptom management.

The successful candidate will be an oncology nurse with proven leadership skills and the vision and passion to help develop a new service and optimise high quality patient care. Being a good team player, they will work with the Matron and nursing team leaders to help foster good communication and improved processes to enhance the patient pathway. This is a demanding but very rewarding role with a Trust that is committed to the ongoing development of its staff. An ideal next step if you have the right blend of skills and experience to join us.

Please note this is a 12-month fixed term contract.

Main duties of the job

To create and maintain a safe, therapeutic clinical environment for all patients and their families who come to Markus Ward.

To co-ordinate all functions and activities proactively within Markus, working closely with Matron and other Sisters

To manage resources of clinical area within budgetary limitations e.g. Finance, equipment and staff (including temporary staff)

To provide strong clinical leadership to the nursing and health care support workers that is motivating, supportive and sets clear boundaries resulting in a high quality safe patient care.

Working closely with School of Nursing and Practice Educators team to support a clinical learning environment that enables nursing staff to develop professionally and promotes the use of evidence in practice.
