Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to lead the development and growth of Private Patient services at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Following approval of a new Private Patients team structure, we are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Assistant General Manager to provide senior operational and strategic leadership for the service.
The successful candidate will develop and deliver a sustainable Private Patients growth plan, working closely with consultants, clinical divisions, Finance and corporate teams. They will help convert identified opportunities into viable services while strengthening the processes needed to identify activity, agree prices, secure authorisation, raise invoices promptly and recover income.
This post is dedicated solely to Private Patients and does not include responsibility for the Overseas Visitors service
Main duties of the job
The postholder will
- Lead the development and delivery of the Trust's Private Patients strategy and multi-year growth plan.
- Validate and prioritise service development opportunities, considering demand, clinical capacity, pricing, direct costs, workforce requirements and financial contribution.
- Work with clinical teams to develop commercially viable private patient pathways and prepare robust business cases and investment proposals.
- Lead senior relationships and negotiations with private medical insurers and other commercial partners.
- Develop evidence-based pricing and tariff proposals with Finance and clinical services.
- Establish strong relationships with consultants and support the development of appropriate private practice at the Trust.
- Provide oversight of Private Patients activity, income, contribution, invoicing, debt and delivery against agreed targets.
- Strengthen end-to-end processes covering enquiries, authorisation, booking, treatment, coding, invoicing and income recovery.
- Provide visible and inclusive leadership to the Private Patients team.
- Line manage the Band 7 Private Patients Service Manager, who will lead the day-to-day operation of the service.
- Ensure private activity is delivered safely and transparently without adversely affecting NHS access, capacity, quality or patient care.

You will be able to demonstrate:
- Significant senior management experience in a complex healthcare, public service or commercial environment.
