The Bus Driver will be responsible for the safe operation, transport, and positioning of the Simulation Bus as a shared regional learning resource led by Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT).

Main duties of the job

The post holder will ensure the Simulation Bus is moved safely between approved locations, positioned appropriately at deployment sites, and remains compliant with all relevant road traffic, transport, and safety legislation.

The role supports the wider Simulation Bus programme by enabling the safe delivery of simulation-based education and training across partner organisations.

To ensure service continuity, the post holder may be required to work flexibly across agreed locations and support operational requirements as directed by the Simulation Bus Project Manager.

Job responsibilities

Transport and Vehicle Operation

  1. Safely drive the Simulation Bus between approved deployment locations across partner organisations.
  2. Ensure all journeys are planned and undertaken in accordance with road traffic legislation, driver hours regulations, and organisational policies.
  3. Carry out routine pre-use vehicle checks (e.g. tyres, lights, fuel, safety systems) and report defects promptly.
  4. Ensure the bus is safely positioned at designated deployment sites in coordination with the Project Manager and hosting organisation.
  5. Support safe set-up and collection procedures at each location.
  6. Maintain cleanliness and basic operational readiness of the vehicle.

Safety and Compliance

  1. Ensure the Simulation Bus is roadworthy prior to all movements.
  2. Report any vehicle faults, incidents, or safety concerns immediately through agreed escalation routes.
  3. Comply with all transport, driving, and organisational safety policies.
  4. Maintain a duty of care for the vehicle at all times, including when parked at external sites.
  5. Support safe access and egress arrangements at deployment locations.

Operational Support

  1. Work collaboratively with the Simulation Bus Project Manager and Simulation Technician to support scheduled deployments.
  2. Assist with logistical planning where required, including arrival and departure timing.
  3. Respond flexibly to operational changes, delays, or urgent deployment needs.
  4. Support efficient turnaround between sites in line with the agreed schedule.

Security and Site Awareness

  1. Ensure the Simulation Bus is appropriately secured when parked or stationed on site.
  2. Liaise with hosting organisations regarding safe parking and site access arrangements.
  3. Ensure the vehicle is not left in unsafe or unmonitored conditions.
  4. Report any security concerns or site-related risks immediately.

Other Duties

  1. Comply with MPFT policies and procedures at all times.
  2. Participate in relevant training required for the role.
  3. Contribute to service improvement discussions where appropriate.
  4. Support a culture of safety, professionalism, and respect.

Decision and Judgements
