Job summary

The vacancy is for a full time speciality doctor working into the eating disorders team based at West Park Hospital (inpatient unit) and Imperial Avenue, Stockton on Tees (community). This post is based at Parkside Mental Health Resource Centre, Middlesbrough.Birch Ward at West Park Hospital is a specialist eating disorder unit. It is a 15 bedded unit which accepts admissions from across the North East and Cumbria. The unit provides a specialist multidisciplinary treatment programme for adults with severe eating disorders, including complex patients with psychiatric and physical comorbidity.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of the ward multidisciplinary team attending the daily ward report out.

To ensure robust assessments of new patients including the completion of full psychiatric histories, review of previous notes, mental state examinations and physical examinations where appropriate.

To review patients and treatment plans as appropriate.

To participate in formulation meetings.

To initiate initial management plans.

To maintain accurate and clear records using the CITO system.

To communicate with staff, patients and their carers in a timely and effective manner.

To liaise with other professional staff and agencies including the completion of discharge summaries.

To ensure the practice of safe medicines management.

To work within framework of CPA

We are one of the largest specialist mental health and learning disabilities trusts in the country operating from sites in Durham, Teesside, North Yorkshire and York and Selby. We provide a range inpatient and community services to people living in County Durham, the Tees Valley, Scarborough, Whitby, Ryedale, Harrogate, Hambleton and Richmondshire. We also provide additional specialist services to other parts of Northern England.

We deliver our services by working in partnership with eight local authorities and clinical commissioning groups, a wide range of voluntary organisations, as well as service users, their carers and the public.

Psychiatrists are essential contributors to our mental health teams. Service users expect and are justified to expect collaborative relationships with dedicated psychiatrists who work consistently as part of effective services. The Medical Directorate and Medical Development Team are striving to improve medical workforce recruitment and retention in a variety of ways and the cornerstone of these efforts is The TEWV Charter for the Medical Workforce.
