Queensferry Medical Practice is looking for an experienced receptionist and administrator to join our friendly, dedicated team.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and team working skills, be hardworking, reliable and be able to work under pressure, as well as having an aptitude to learn. They will be patient-centred and have outstanding customer service skills.
Ideally the successful candidate will have worked in a GP surgery and have a thorough knowledge of our clinical system - EMIS Web.
Main duties of the job
A list of duties includes but is not limited to
Patient-specific duties
Workflow administration for clinical correspondence.
Patient registrations and deductions.
Effective reception triage and signposting.
Processing requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations.
Maintaining and monitoring the Practice appointments system.
Processing repeat prescription and acute prescription requests.
Admin duties
Processing and distributing incoming (and outgoing) mail.
Filing and retrieving paperwork.
Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team members and associated healthcare agencies and providers.
General duties
Provision of refreshments for staff and visitors as required.
Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter.
Opening-up/locking-up of Practice premises and maintaining security.
Abide by all Practice policies, procedures and protocols.

We have a modern, skill mixed and progressive team consisting of 2 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, 2 long-term locum ANP's, 2 Practice Nurses, 1 HCSW, and an excellent and supportive administration team.
We use EMIS Web and have access to a range of digital tools to support efficient clinical working, including Lexacom digital dictation, Anima documents and Scribe and Accurx.
We benefit from easy and fast access to the M56, M53 and A55, making the practice easily accessible from Cheshire, Merseyside, Manchester and North Wales.
Uniquely, we are located between two hospitals providing secondary care services: - Wrexham, within NHS Wales and Chester, within NHS England. This provides our team with an interesting and distinctive cross-border healthcare environment.

- Good standard of general education, including GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
- Basic IT qualification or demonstrable IT literacy, with the ability to use email, Microsoft Office and computerised systems.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training, including practice-specific systems, NHS information governance, confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Ability to demonstrate competence in written and verbal communication.
Desirable
- Previous training or qualification in medical administration/reception.
- Training in customer service, telephone skills or administration.
- Understanding of NHS/primary care administration, gained through relevant training or previous employment.
