Job summary
An opportunity has opened to join our kitchen team in the Alexandra Hospitals central production unit. This position is for a Chef support who will assist in our Central Production Unit for the production of meals for both patient services and for our very popular staff restaurant. This role will also support all on site Catering for both patient and retail needs, to ensure a continued catering service is maintained.
The majority of food served at the Alex is produced fresh on site in our CPU, so this role would suit someone who is passionate about food and is keen to learn new skills and or expand on existing knowledge.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the production of meals for patients, staff and visitors in conjunction with other members of the trained kitchen staff to defined standards along with all other associated duties.
Work according to all set policies and procedures and adhere to documentation recording to set standards and report any non-conformities to the line manager.
To adhere to all set standards relating to raw materials, ingredients, intermediate products and finished products to comply with Food Safety regulations.
Labelling, portioning and packaging of food as required.
Ensure workstations and preparation areas are kept clean and in a hygienic manner.
To ensure all aspects of cleaning duties are undertaken in line with our Food Safety Management System
To adhere to the departments set codes of practise on hygiene and to maintain a high standard of personal hygiene.
To assist the other members of the kitchen and catering teams in ensuring the availability of all food services.
To observe the correct use and care of equipment and materials, reporting any defects.
To adhere to the reporting procedures of sickness/absence, annual leave and special leave completing the relevant documentation.
To take note and guidance from the trained catering staff to ensure best practice is followed.
Attend and complete mandatory and statutory training as required
It is essential that the successful applicant for this position is able to work weekends, evenings and Bank holidays as and when required.

Job description
Job responsibilities
To organise his/her work to encourage the smooth running of the department and the production of meals.
To assist in the preparation and production of meals for consumption by patients, staff, visitors and external sites according to standard recipe requirements.
To work according to set policies and procedures on the receipt and storage of all goods
Associated with the production of meals ensuring they are of the required specification and Quality.
To record all cooking and chilling temperatures to set standards and report any non-conformities to the line manager.
To adhere to all set standards relating to raw materials, ingredients, intermediate products and finished products to comply with Food Safety regulations.
To assist in the labelling, portioning and packaging of food as required.
To assist in the production of therapeutic meals in accordance with the dieticians requirements.
To ensure that workstations and preparation areas are kept clean and in a hygienic manner.
To ensure all aspects of cleaning duties are undertaken in line with our Food Safety Management System
