Job summary

This vacancy is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship. Please do not apply unless you have another means of establishing a right to work, or you are already employed by the NHS and would transfer to the pay point at the top of Band 8b.

At NHS Blood & Transplant (NHSBT) we are a unique organisation that works with patients and donors alike to save and improve lives every day. We are on a mission to ensure that every patient receives the donation they need. We are seeking an experienced Senior Programme Manager to lead the delivery of complex high-value digital projects and programmes that align with NHSBTs strategic objectives, ensuring the successful delivery of outcomes and benefits within defined time, cost, and quality parameters.

Join our dedicated team in NHSBT organ donation and transplantation. You'll be part of a programme team at the forefront of organ transplantation projects, ultimately saving and improving lives. The establishment of a national Assessment and Recovery Centre (ARC) service will extend equitable access to life-saving products and treatments to everyone that needs them and bridge the gap between shortage of organs available and demand.

You will have an innovative, problem-solving approach, with strong stakeholder management skills and experience in change transformation. By being part of a passionate, enthusiastic, supportive, and high performing team, you will build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

As a Senior Programme Manager, the post holder will lead complex, high-value programmes that deliver transformational change and strategic benefits, supporting NHSBTs long-term objectives. The post holder will:

  • Lead the scoping, definition and planning of complex programmes, translating organisational priorities into deliverable plans aligned to NHSBT objectives.
  • Drive end-to-end programme delivery, ensuring outcomes are achieved on time, within budget and to agreed quality standards, while managing resources, risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Establish and oversee benefits management, ensuring measurable value, sustainable outcomes and alignment with organisational goals.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams within a matrix environment, promoting collaboration, innovation and high performance to deliver programme objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with senior stakeholders, acting as a trusted advisor and influencing decisions through effective communication and engagement.
  • Undertake line management responsibilities where required, supporting performance, development and succession planning.
  • Act as a senior leader within NHSBT, contributing to strategic planning and championing continuous improvement, equity, diversity and inclusion.
