Job summary

We are seeking to appoint dynamic and enthusiastic candidates to the role of Paediatric Matron within our Barnet & Chase Farm Health Unit, within the Babies, Children's, & Young People Division.

This role is based at our Barnet General Hospital site, with the expectation of attendance to the Chase Farm Hospital site, in addition to any other local sites under the direct management of this health unit. At times, there may be requirement or expectation to attend other health units to support the wider service.

This role is offered at full-time and includes participation within the Matron On-call rota.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide clinical management and professional leadership to nursing staff at all levels within their area of responsibility, ensuring that nursing care is delivered to a high standard and that the nursing resource is managed effectively.

The postholder will also ensure the attainment and monitoring of quality and clinical performance indicators and ensuring that any aspect of Directorate service delivery is underpinned by the patient and service user experience.

The postholder will play an important role in the development of services and provide specialised advice to nursing teams, wider professional colleagues, as relevant, to ensure high standards of direct care delivery.

The postholder will support the implementation and maintenance of effective governance arrangements whilst ensuring that nursing care is of the highest possible standard at all times with particular emphasis on dignity and compassion.

The postholder will line manage departmental, ward manager and clinical nurse specialists. To work in partnership with the Assistant General Manager and Clinical Service Lead to ensure the operational delivery of the Service Triumvirate strategy for safer, cost-effective, quality care.

The postholder will:

  • Spend at least 20% of weekly hours in clinical practice.
  • Deputise for the Head of Nursing as required.
  • Participate in the out of hours on-call rota.
  • Ensure all training and compliance is up-to-date.
