DevOps Engineer - SC Cleared

Rate: £350 - 500 per day
Location: Remote
Clearance: Active SC Clearance required (or eligible to hold SC with current clearance process already completed)
We are supporting a major public sector digital transformation programme and are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team delivering secure, scalable and cloud-native solutions.
This role will focus on the design, automation and optimisation of AWS-based infrastructure and delivery platforms, working closely with software engineers, architects, testers and delivery teams to enable reliable, secure and efficient software release processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, maintain and optimise AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code principles.
- Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines, with a strong focus on GitLab CI.
- Automate deployment, configuration and operational processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Support containerised workloads and cloud-native deployment patterns.
- Implement monitoring, logging and observability solutions to improve platform visibility and operational performance.
- Drive infrastructure resilience, scalability, security and cost optimisation initiatives.
- Support incident response, troubleshooting and root cause analysis activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure successful delivery of platform and application services.
- Promote DevOps best practices and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
- Strong hands-on AWS experience, including services such as ECS, CloudWatch, SNS, SQS and related platform components.
- Proven Terraform and Infrastructure as Code expertise.
- Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using GitLab CI.
- Strong Docker and containerisation experience.
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana and CloudWatch.
- Knowledge of AWS security best practices, IAM and Well-Architected principles.
- Experience implementing automation and reducing manual operational overhead.
- Good understanding of networking concepts including VPCs, DNS, load balancing and cloud connectivity.
- Knowledge of Git workflows, branching strategies and release management.
- Experience working with serverless services and event-driven architectures.
- Exposure to database technologies, including MongoDB and other modern data platforms.
- Public sector or government project experience.
- Cloud cost optimisation and FinOps awareness.
- DevSecOps and security automation experience.
- Knowledge of AI-enabled AWS services such as Bedrock and document-processing services such as Textract.
- Experience supporting highly regulated or security-sensitive environments.
